Born and raised in Illinois, Eugene Dale, known as Gene, moved to Iowa as a teenager. He studied Agriculture at Iowa State and in later years, Art and Art History at Luther College in Decorah, IA. Gene also took workshops with professional artists in three states.
“I’ve always been an outdoors person; a sportsman, farmer, and amateur photographer. Farming let me observe animals, birds, and local landscapes on a daily basis. It was an ideal time to study anatomy, habits, and markings, which I continue to do. All my subjects are local scenes I have observed.” –Eugene Dale
